Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

Espunge/Seal

I have heard the terms espunge and seal records , but unsure what the process may entail.

I woulld like to know if it is possible to do either re: past misdemeanor charges that occured many years ago?? Since I have not had any other criminal activity since these offenses.

These records may be preventing my quest in seeking better employment opportunities;

What do you suggest & how do I proceede??

Thank You

Re: Espunge/Seal

In the Commonwealth of Virginia, if one has been convicted of a crime, basically, the remedy of expungement is available only to those individuals

who were wrongfully convicted and are, therefore, eligible to receive a pardon from the Governor.

The one exception to this would be if you were charged with petty larceny and ultimately resolved the case with what's known as an accord and satisfaction (paid the complaining witness some money for his alleged loss) in which case you would also be eligible for expungement of the record.
