What should I expect to happen in court..I was caught shoplifting food (first time for any crime ever I'm 48)?

Probably, a suspended sentence with probation (and no jail time) unless you've
been charged in Prince William Co. General District Court where if you're
convicted (of petty larceny), you can expect to be sentenced to a minimum of two days in the local slammer.
