Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia
Expunge/Seal
How can you go about getting a case sealed that happened 7 years ago? I know you have to apply in writing but is it something I can do or does a lawyer have to do it?

Re: Expunge/Seal
If you're talking about getting the record of a criminal conviction expunged, this can only be done in Virginia if you were wrongfully convicted of the crime and have the evidence to prove it.
The one exception to this is if you were charged with petty larceny and then settled the case by paying a sum of money to the complaining witness and received what's known as an accord and satisfaction. The record of this matter would then be expungable.
