I am trying to have a misdemeanor exsponged off my record and I am trying to find out how I go about doing this.A lawyer stated to me that I can do it myself without the help of an attorney, but I do not know the process.

Unless you were wrongfully convicted of the misdemeanor offense, and have the evidence to prove it, the record of your conviction cannot be expunged in the Commonwealth of Virginia unless the charge involved petty larceny which was ultimately resolved through a civil remedy known as an accord and satisfaction.
