Re: false police report

If my memories serves, filing a false police report is a violation of a local ordinance and is classified as Class 1 misdemeanor offense. This class of offense carries a possible penalty of up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $2500, either or both.

As a first time offender you will not serve any jail time and should get probation with conditions, and you should also be able to secure the disposition known as Suspended Imposition of Sentence(SIS)

which should allow you to emerge from this unhappy event with no record of a conviction.

However, to ensure that this de minimis type disposition does in fact occur with minimum adverse consequences for your life and pocket book, you should have an attorney representing you in this matter.
