Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

A family friend committed 2 crimes within 24 hours in 2 different states, GA and VA. he suffered from temporary insanity due to over use of anabolic steroids and drugs. He was not a career offender. he had no previous crimes prior to all this. He was sentenced in GA for 25 yrs and life in VA. No murder was commited. However he didnt have effective legal help and didnot know to file writ of habeas corpus. he is due for parole in GA when he was slapped with 2 detainers VA and Immigration cuz he is subject to deportation. He is due to b pcked up by VA . This guy has served his dues having spent most of his sentence in segregation that alone is torturing. How can he be saved from spending the rest of his life in prison. He was 22 when he went to prison and now he is 42 ..any suggestion to fight the sentence this late ...to file a motion to overturn the sentence ..any valuable help /suggestion is greatly appreciated. Again remember he an illegal alien ..why spend all the tax payers money to leave him incarcerated?

At this late stage in matters, unfortunately, I see no remedy for your friend based upon the facts as described, i.e., if he's ever released from Virginia custody, he will then surely be subject to deportation as an aggravated felon.
