i have a family member who has a upcoming sex assault trial in a virginia court.Can his spouse bar the public from attending the trial?

No, of course not, unless the judge presiding over the matter found
some reason to close the proceedings to the public (most unlikely).
Furthermore, there are persuasive public policy considerations as to why such
trials should be fully open to whomever may wish to attend.
