Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia
felon yet??
I was found guilty(pled no con.) on a class 6 felony, I asked my public defender if I was considered a convicted felon as of now or after I am sentenced. I ask this because when I am sentenced they are supposed to reduce to a misd. according to my lawyer. My lawyer tells me that I am not a felon as of yet and to feel free to hunt with my gun. He seems to me not to be the sharpest tool in the box if you know what i mean and wanted to ask this question because, to me I am a convicted felon. so do I believe him or am i as of now a convicted felon? Thanks for the info.

Re: felon yet??
Conviction of a crime = verdict of guilty(after trial) or plea of guilty + sentence imposed-----
Until both of the above have occurred there is no conviction.
Your less than "sharpest tool in the box" defense counsel is correct on this particular issue.
