When can the courts legally take all of your assets in a criminal case

Forfeiture laws allow for a prosecuting
jurisdiction to seize a defendant's assets which are involved in crime or which are purchased from the sale proceeds of such crime. However, prosecutors are not allowed to seize assets which are legitimately owned by a defendant and which are not connected
to crime in any traceable manner.
