Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

A friend of mine has been working with police for 4-5 months because they presented him with information on a crime they could "pin" on him. Since he is a convicted felon he agreed. Now, 5 months later he's just been arrested on the same charges they presented. He signed a contract with them. What rights does he have? What can he possibly do to help himself? The charges are extremely serious and he already has 10 years hanging on him if convicted of just one charge. Seems that he did what they asked him to do and ditched him. Please help

The issues described are issues which should be addressed by your friend's attorney whom hopefully has either been hired or appointed by now to represent him on these new charges.
