Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia
Grand Larceny for Stealing Newspapers?
At the newspaper I work for, we have a special weekly publication that is delivered to all non-subscribers of our daily paper. The carriers are contracted to pick up their newspapers (the amounts they deliver vary from a few hundred to several thousand) and to deliver them by a certain date, and are paid bi-weekly and monthly. If a carrier is caught throwing their papers away, and they are paid over $2000 to deliver these papers, could this be considered Grand Larceny? Would the police be able to do anything? Obviously, their contracts would be terminated, but could any further action be taken legally? Thank you.

its very possible that gl charges could be brought if the value of the newspapers exceed $250.00.
