Once a person is convited is there a way to appeal to a higher court or try to get a reconsideration hearing aftr being sent to prison

No, there is no way to get an appeal or sentence reconsideration after the appropriate time frames
for requesting each has expired. One can, however, petition for habeas corpus at any time to a higher court to ask for a review of the causes for which one is being imprisoned. There is, of course, no requirement that the appellate court grant the petition for review unless it believes that there are meritorious grounds to do so.
