Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

Hello,

I am asking a legal question about a friend who was caught shoplifting about $100 worth of clothing from two stores. She is currently being charged with two class 1 misdemeanors. She is a full time college student at VCU with good grades. (She's a good kid). What are the possible consequences?

If she's a first time offender, upon her plea of guilty, probably, probation with a suspended sentence, possible required attendance at special class for shoplifters, with a disposition known as SIS (Suspended Imposition of Sentence).

max penalty for a class 1 misdemeanor is 1 year in jail and fine of $2,500.00. However, if she is a first offender, she will probably get a suspended sentence and a fine plus restitution.
