Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

I-485 Interview question

Both my husband and son have already received their GC by mail but I have been called for an I-485 Interview. My lawyer thinks this is due to my arrest for shoplifting in Florida 4 years ago - charged with M 1. Case was dismissed and reduced to M2 for MIP- I never pleaded guilty- and max sentence if I had ever been sentenced would have been 364 days in Prison. I have been told that 1 misdemeanor is forgivable, and I am eligible for the exception, and getting my GC should not be a problem, as I have no other record. My lawyer thinks it better for an advocated to be present with me for the interview however, I wonder if it will be regarded by the interviewer that I am feeling guilty if I go with my lawyer? Lawyer fee is of no consequence here as GC is more important- I just wonder, that if my record is admissible, and I should be eligible for GC - wouldn't it seem fishy to them, if I feel the need for my lawyer to be present? Please give me your advise. Thanks!

Re: I-485 Interview question

I agree with your lawyer, and, no, there's absolutely nothing "fishy" about having a lawyer present with the interviewee at any USCIS interview, no matter what the reason is for the interview.
