Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

Idenity Theft

My wallet was stolen a year ago. I did report it. I had no credit cards or anything related. I did have my SS Card, DL and Birth Certificate in it. I was living on the streets didn't want to loose them. I found out about 4 days ago someone has racked up 7 felonies and 6 misdemeanors using my info. I was told that I needed proof of where I was when these crimes were taking place. I was also told I needed a letter of ??? from the Center Director of the Trade Program I am in but I am unable to recall what the letter is called and what must be in the letter. Can anyone help me with this please. I really need to clear myself so this does not mess my goals up of becoming a Police Officer. Thanks for your time.

On further reflection, it would seem

more likely productive for you to contact the local office of Commonwealth's Attorney in the locality where these crimes have allegely occurred for guidance as to what action you should now undertake to clear your name rather than the local law enforcement person who probably doesn't know what he's talking about, particularly, if he's new on the job.

Re: Idenity Theft

Your best first approach may likely be to go back to the person who you assert told you that you need proof as to where you were when the crimes took place which are now supposedly linked to your identity, and ask this person again what you need to do. (This sounds like a person from a local law enforcement agency.) If you're given the same instruction, ask to have it confirmed with this person's immediate supervisor that what you've been told is correct.

The person who originally instructed you may or may not know what she or he is talking about in dealing with the problem of identity theft. (After all, how many folks who've had their identities stolen and have had crimes subsequently committed in their names, could necessarily accurately recall or gather credible evidence to prove where, exactly, they were when these crimes were committed.?
