Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

illegal search of vechicle

My boyfriend went to visit friend, the law was there searching friends home and then made a search of vechicle and found handgun and methampthetimine and little pot under the seat of the truck, my boyfriend was not driving he was a passenger and he got arrested for the drugs and gun,he has been in jail for 4 months now . doesnt this constitute illegal search and can he held for admitting it was his? he was under influence of alcohol or illegal substance at the time ? my boyfriend was not driving and the driver was not arrested , the truck belonged to the driver ,they only went to visit a friend and had no idea of the search going on at the friends house ,

All of these questions should be directed to the competent criminal defense counsel who, surely, by now has either been appointed by the court to represent your boyfriend or been hired by him
