Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

Impounded car

My boyfriend and his friend used my car, they picked up a old friend of my boyfriends. My boyfriend and the guy in the back seat got into an argument in the car and it got physical. My boyfriend jumped out the car with the keys and ran from the guy. My car got left in the turning lane on a main street so it was towed. When the cops got there a guy said he had got robbed by the guy in my car but by the time the second officer arrived, the guy who said he had been robbed had left the scene without leaving his name or anything. So the detectives dont have a witness, victim or anything to go on but have been holding my car for over a week now. I wasnt in the car and dont know where the people are that were in the car. Can they hold my car without having a case??

Re: Impounded car

Call the police department and, after explaining the circumstances, ask for the return of your vehicle. If the request is refused, then call the local prosecutor's office and reiterate the request. If your request is still not accommodated, then arrange to see a lawyer.
