Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia
Indefinite Probation
I'm living in WV Interstate compact), but was convicted of a crime in VA. I have served my sentence and my probation date is listed as indefinite. I asked my probation officer what that means and he says that means they are only waiting on his report. When I aked if he has heard back, he said no, but sometime he doesn't. I have no idea what to make of that answer. All I want to know if this probation is really indefinite. I have been on probation for a year and have always been in compliance. Also, all court fees and fines are paid in full. Thank you.

Re: Indefinite Probation
If you go to the court where you were convicted, you should be able to ask the clerk to provide you with a copy of the judge's sentencing order in your case. This sentencing order should spell out very clearly the term of your probation and indicate whether
such probation in your particular case
has now terminated.
