Re: Jail Time
In virginia an inmate serving his/her sentence in
the local county or city jail normally receives
one day deducted from their sentence for each day
served, providing they have maintained good behaviour.
Therefore, someone serving a 10 day sentence in the
Arlington Co. Detention Center would actually do
five days time as long as his/her behaviour is non-
problematical.
However, someone doing penitentiary time
(felony and more than one year)for an offense
committed after Jan. 1, 1995, must serve approxi-
mately 87 to 88 percent of the time before they
are elgible for release.
