Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia
Jury or Bench Trial
a 17 year old on trial as adult for rape originally asked for a jury trial because he thought he had to have one. He later asked for a bench trial but the judge denied it saying that because of his age and the type of case that he had to have a jury trial. Is that how it works or could he have gotten a bench trial if his lawyer had pushed the issue?

I'd go with the judge's ruling.
