Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

Juvenile Charged with A & B etc

my daughter was in a fight in school, the person she hit is not pressing charges on her, the school resource officer waited 30 days before filing assault and battery and also disturbing the peace in a public place. She has never been in trouble with the police, but I know that she is guilty. I want her to learn a lesson from this but I dont want her to totally rebel either against the ''system''. Should I get an attorney for her so that she does not have to go to juvenile hall or since she really is guilty for what happened should I just let the courts decide on what should happen?

We get this exact question a lot. You wouldn't spank your child with a pickaxe, would you? Why then would you allow her to be chewed up and spat out by the justice system in the name of "teaching her a lesson"? That's not what they do.

One more thing. You don't "know" that she is guilty, you weren't there. A lawyer might find legally valid defenses that aren't immediately apparent to you.
