Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

Larceny/Possession of stolen goods

Hi, I had my laptop stolen about a year ago..september 2005 by a member of my boyfriend's family. The other day my boyfriend noticed the laptop in his sister room. So, he went in her room and took it back. When we first filed a police report, the put a detective on the case and the detective found nothing. Is it too late to charge his sister that took the laptop? She is also saying that he took 300 dollars while he was in her room which he didn't. What legal reprucations can occur and what can I do?

Re: Larceny/Possession of stolen goods

In the interest of preserving whatever remnant of family relations might, at this apparently late stage, still be preservable, I would advise you and your cohorts to back off and cool down.

(And, yes, that admonition would include the advice to forget about the idea of bringing charges---against anyone.)
