Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia
Getting a lawyer..
When I wasbrought up on charges,I did not qualify for a public defender nor could I afford to hire my own. I am recently laid off of work and was wondering if I can petition the court and have a public defender represent me before my case goes to trial.

Yes, you can, and you should go to the clerk's office ASAP to request a hearing to have the court appoint you a lawyer.
