Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia
a man called the police and told them that my boyfriend tried to shoot him. the police came to our house and arrested my boyfriend based on what this man had said. are they required to have him sign an affidavit? it seems to me like he needs to be held responsible for this fiasco, but the cops did not have him sign anything.

The victim must normally write out and sign a complaint. If he is no telling the truth he can be charged with filing a false police report which is a misdemeanor.
