Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

Marijuana Posession Bust in VA

Recently, I got busted with less than an ounce of marijuana. The cops just gave me a ticket, but I have to appear at court soon. I have been thinking a little bit about what I plan on saying, but I just want to run this by someone to see if it might help me case. What I want to tell the judge is: (1) I am being completely honest when I say that (2) I only used marijuana for spiritual/personal advancement (which is the truth in my case) and that (3) it helped me to get rid of my depression that I have been dealing with for a few years . The only thing that might hurt this case for me, is that when I got busted, I was high, and I told the cop I was holding it for a friend ; common reponse, I know, but I was incredibly nervous and panicing at the time. All help is appreciated! :-)

If you do not have an attorney representing you,

you can attempt to negotiate your plea bargain with the prosecutor assigned to your case on the morning of the hearing and offer whatever excuses/mitigating factors that you wish.

However, there will be no need to involve the judge once the deal has been struck since if the plea deal is at all reasonable, the court will nomally accept it without further ado or hearing anything from you (other than your acceptance of the deal).
