Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

marijuanna

I was at work and left early because I was sick. I later found out that our work truck was searched by the police and that an ounce of marijuanna was discovered. Someone said that it was my lunch box the stuff was in. The lunch box did not have my name on it and the police never tried contacting me. I contacted them and they said there was no warrant for my arrest but that I needed to come sign some papers so I could get my coiurt date. By doing this am I turning myself in? If I just ignore this whole thing and don't go what will happen? I don't think they have enough evidence to do anything , and if so, why aren't they sending me the papers?

Re: marijuanna

How could you be so foolish as to contact the cops in the first place?

Yes, of course, the course of action which you've mentioned amounts to turning yourself in, and now that you've given them ample reason to focus laser like on you as more than merely a person of interest, you'll probably be needing criminal defense counsel very soon.

In the meantime, however, your best approach is now to shut up, refuse to discuss the matter any further with anyone and under no circumstances should you be so dumb as to report to the police station in order to "sign some papers".

Re: marijuanna

You cannot ignore the problem.

There may be search and seizure issues.

There may be knowledge and intention issues.

There may be controlled substance issues.

This is off the top of my head. Get in touch with an attorney. I may be

available depending on date.
