how long does a misdemeanor charge stay in your records and can the charge ever be removed, if so, how

If you were convicted in Virginia the record is premanent and can not be removed from your record. If you were found not guilty and simply want the arrest taken off, you can petition the Circuit court of the county in which you were originally charged for an expungement of your record.
