Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia
navigating a police investigation
My 15 yr old son is being investigated by a Detective regarding (unfounded) sexual allegations of a minor. I have declined her request to interview my son, answered a few of her questions and she is now requesting to question my son's female cousin of which I'm 99% sure will not incriminate him. She says it may help him. Should I setup the contact or any others she may request? If not, what are the possible consequences?

Re: navigating a police investigation
It is probably in your son's best interest that for his cousin to decline to speak with the police. I would not rely on the officer's statement that her statement may help. Nothing can happen if she refuses to meet with an officer. If she is under a court subpoena then she would have to go to court.
