Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia
Neighbor Harassment via Police Reports
My neighbor has appointed himself the ''unofficial head of the unofficial neighborhood watch group''. He has decided that our family, mainly my husband, must leave the neighborhood. He has made numerous false police reports and ome valid yet minor report. Valid report was car parked backwards on street for a few minutes. False (or exaggerated) reports included we were naked in our front yard in broad daylight (100% false), child was walking dog (true he was walking the dog right in front of our house but he said the kid was running the neighborhood unsupervised and was in danger), reported fires about 16 times (when we grill our on our charcoal grill). Many more too. He has told other neighbors that we peek in his windows and that we are dangerous. The police always respond to his calls and most of the time tell him they can do nothing but they never tell him to leave us alone. When I went to the police they told me to just do the same thing back to him which I do not want to do. What can we do??

Re: Neighbor Harassment via Police Reports
Filing a false police report is a crime. If such reports are being filed against you without any credible basis, then you should follow them up with your local Commonwealth's Attorney's Office to see that the perpetrator is appropriately prosecuted.
