how many times can a commonwealth attorney nolle prosse a case before he has to give up

Until the relevant statute of limitations has run, if a misdemeanor offense, or, if a felony, there is no limitation in the Commonwealth until, perhaps, a judge decides to shut down the prosecution of such a case.
