Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia
I am the parent of a young man who was sentenced to 12 years for carjacking. He turned 18 shortly before the crime was committed and has served 7 years. I would like to submit an appeal for sentence reduction, but am unsure of the process. Please help.

Contact the attorney who represented him on the original charge to discuss
the possibility of filing a formal motion for reduction of sentence. If that doesn't
work out, you could also consider assisting your son in drafting a letter to the judge who sentenced him outlining the reasons as to why it might now be
appropriate for the judge to consider reducing his sentence.
