My son was charged with petit larceney for stealing a bag of cookies. He claims he was hungry. He is a college student and it happened in petersburg, va i don't have a lawyer and can't afford one. Any suggestions? Will this charge remain on his record.

Re: Petit larceney
Yes, it very likely could remain on his record in the unhappy event that he's convicted of the crime. Your son should request that the court appoint a lawyer to represent him.
