petit larceny and green card
hi few month ago i was convicted of shop lifting and the judge sentenced me to do 50 hours of comminuty service and i have finish them now. my question is that when i apply for green card will this affect me in a bad way, meaning would they deny me for it.

Yes, if you were actually convicted of shoplifting which in Virginia is a misdemeanor offense which carries a potential sentence of up tp 12 months in jail and a fine of up to $2500, either or both, this conviction could
affect you in the way you've suggested, i.e, denial of your green card application, and, possibly even worse, meaning a notice to appear for removal proceedings. And, even if you were not actually convicted of the offense but received the deferred disposition known as Suspended Imposition of Sentence(SIS), the effect, unfortunately, could also be the same.
