Even if you're a first time offender, Prince William County is the only jurisdiction in NoVa of which I'm aware which will, apparently, seek to jail you for two days and impose a fine + costs as well, if you're convicted of petty larceny in that jurisdiction. In the others(provided you're a first offender), you should receive an SIS(Suspended Imposition of Sentence), meaning no jail but a modest fine + court costs, and, perhaps, a requirement that you attend a class of some sort designed to help one overcome a desire to steal, and also, perhaps, some community service to be completed within a specified time period.
