Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia
Petty larcenry
I had been caught at a 7-11 stealing a drink that was 2.69. I was charged with shoplifting/concealing. What usually is the charge to go with it in VA? What should I do before I go to court? Hire someone? If so how much would that cost, and what could they offer?

Re: Petty larcenry
Yes, "hire someone", (preferably a lawyer); petty larceny is a Class 1 misdemenaor offense in the Commonwealth carrying a penalty of up to 12 months in the local slammer and up to a $2500 fine, either or both.
And, if you cannot afford to hire a criminal defense counsel on your own, then ask the court to appoint one to represent you.
