Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

posession of alcohol

ok so my friend got pulled over and we were searched there was beer found in my bag unopened that i didn't know about so i'm 20 and got charged with possession of alcohol under the age of 21 and it's my first offense i want to know what to expect from my court date...please help!!!!

Minor in possession in violation of Sec. 4.1-305 of the Code of Virginia is a misdemeanor(although

not jailable offense) is still serious enough in terms of your future record to warrant hiring an attorney to represent you who should be able to secure a disposition of the matter which will allow you to emerge from this incident without a formal record of conviction.(See Va. Code Sec. 4.1-305(F).)
