poss. with intent.
my husband was arrested in richmond, va for posession of a controlled substance (under 14 g.) with intent to sell. i just wanted to know what the legal penalty is for that and if you have any sound advice to get the sentence reduced.

14 g. is about a half ounce of controlled substance. Unfortunately, you've failed to specify in which category your husband's drug contraband falls, i.e. is it a Category 1,2,3,4,5,6,or a so-called designer drug? The lower the classification category, the more dangerous the drug is regarded and hence the greater the possible penalties.
A defendant charged with possession with intent to distribute a Category 1 or 2 type drug could get a sentence ranging from five to 40 years in the state penitentiary and a fine of up to $500,000. Lesser penalties may also be imposed for first time offenders. See Va. Code 18.2-248.
