Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia
I was given a Preliminary Protective Order and I am the respondent. Do I have to show up for this court date? I prefer not to since I do not have any interest in contacting the petitioner.

Would seem to depend upon the nature of the scheduled hearing, i.e.,
if it's to determine whether the court should extend the PPO, dismiss it,
or, perhaps, make it permanent, the judge would very likely want to hear from you personally regarding the matter under consideration.
Of course, if you as the respondent don't care as to any of these foregoing
possible outcomes, then you could forego your appearance, but, of course,
you would still have to continue to abide by whatever the court may order in the matter.
