Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

Press charges against an attempted sexual offender

I have a friend who told me she and a friend were cornered by two drunk guys who tried to touch them and kiss them; when they ran into their apartment, the two guys tried to beat down the door until the police came. They want to press charges, but are not familiar with how the system works. What should they do?

Re: Press charges against an attempted sexual offender

Your friends should contact the police or prosecutor in the state and county where the offense occured. They will investigate the matter and prosecute the offenders if warranted.

They should should describe exactly what happened to the officers who then will decide with the aid of their supervisors and, perhaps, the local prosecutor's office whether any criminal charges

are warranted in this matter.
