Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

I pressed charges on a 21 year old male for keeping my 16 year old daughter out all night and having sex with her. When I got to court, I found out I am the one prosecuting him....I am, by far, NOT Casey Novak. The case got continued because the magistrate made a date error on the warrant so now I am trying to "prepare my case". I can't find anything (except the actual code of VA ) online that explains what "contributing to the delinquency of a minor" means in VA. I can find it for other states but not VA...can you direct me?

Per Va. Code Sec. 16.1-232, the Commonwealth Attorney is charged with the

responsibility for prosecuting only felonies in the Juvenile & Domestic Relations

District Court and complainants such as your self in the case described are expected in effect to handle the prosecution of misdemeanor cases.

Nevertheless, the statute also indicates that the Commonwealth's Attorney

has the discretion to also prosecute misdemeanor cases in these juvenile courts, and, therefore, if you are at sea, so to speak, as to how you should proceed in this matter, it would seem advisable for you to contact the prosecutor 's office to determine whether they might be willing to exercise their discretion in your case and take over the prosecution of it. Otherwise, you will

likely need to hire a local attorney familiar with J&DR;Court practice to

assist you with the matter.
