Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

i recieved a summons/warrant for my arrest on a filing a false police report about a month ago. i go to school at radford university, and the day the offense took place, i walked down to lot where they keep the cars for people living on campus, i was going down to pick my car up and spent 15 minutes looking for it but couldnt find it, i called the police because someone told me that they deal with cars that have been towed/stolen so i called them and they said that my car had been towed but i didnt know how it had gotten towed on the street it did, to my knowledge it had been parked in the lot i left it when i came up to school.

i went down to the police station and talked to the officer there and he asked me several times if i had driven my car and i told him no, that i couldnt remember driving my car at all this semester, and told him several times that i didnt care about any fines or tickets my car had recieved while it was illegally parked. he left me and said he was going to inspect my car.

after walking and thinking about how my car had gotten to the place it had been towed, i suddenly, and felt very stupid about remembering it, i remembered i had driven my car 5 days prior to it being towed to roanoke and left my car parked on a street close to my dorm, but forgot about it and it was ticketed and eventually towed. the officer called me about 30 minutes after leaving the police station and after talking to him in the car i told him that i did indeed drive my car earlier in the week but had forgotten i had driven it, and that i had left my car parked there for 5 days, thats why it was there. the officer accused me of lying and trying to get out of the tickets and fines, which was only 125 dollars, tickets and towing fees, and told me i would be brought up on charges through my school and the court, and he served a warrant for my arrest on the charge aobut 2 weeks ago. can anyone give me any help on what may happen due to these circumstances, please reply, in need of legal advice. thank you

If it was not your intent to falsify nor deliberatately mislead the cops regarding this police report,

it is unlikely that you will be convicted.of the offense with which you've been charged.

I know this is a free forum. But an attorney will most likely be able to help you out tremendously with this case. But if you cannot afford one - you can attempt to deal with prosecutor if he/she will speak with you... If that does not work - you can tell judge you want to plea not guilty...and see if the judge will dismiss. There are many ways this can go. Good luck.
