Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia
Can a record be cleared?
My daughter age 20 was caught shoplifting. It was the first and only time she ever shoplifted and was caught and will never do it again. She is to appear in court later this month. Is there a way for her to clear her record of the class 1 misdemeaner she has been charged with.

Re: Can a record be cleared?
Generally, in order to expunge a criminal record, the charge cannot result in a conviction. If she is acquitted, the charge is nolle prossed, or dismissed, she could be eligible for an expungement.
