is requesting information or searching the internet for public information on a coworker considered stalking?

The issue here would appear to focus on not the search itself but what the
searcher does with any information s/he finds with respect to the subject of the
search.
Therefore, merely searching would be unlikely in and of itself(in my opinion) to be found to fit the definition of stalking as it is criminally defined.
