Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia
Requirements for registering as a sex offender
A friend has been convicted on 3 counts of misdemeanor child pornography posession in California, where he will serve 2 months in a halfway house on work release. He lives in Virginia. We think he probably has to register as a sex offender in California, but we're not sure. Will he also have to register in Virginia?

Re: Requirements for registering as a sex offender
Yes, your friend will have to register in Virginia as a convicted sex offender pursuant to Va. Code Sec. 9.1-902(F)---and continue to reregister as required as long as he resides in the territory of the Commonwealth.
