Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia
Robbed and Raped at Work
My Sister was Robbed and Raped at Work. She was told to go to the hospital by the police and was there until 9pm. She did not come to work the following day. Her boss has made light of what happened to her and that she didn't need to go to the hospital. She is worried about the hospital bills and compensation for her time missed from work. Her boss has not offered to pay for her medical bills or give her any paid time off or pay for counseling. What recourse does she have? She doesn't want to make a fuss and get fired as she need the job.

The victim witness advocate and Commonwealth's Attorney will talk to you about compensation and other issues.
Re: Robbed and Raped at Work
I am sorry, that is terrible. No one should have to work for some jerk like that. You will want to talk to the police, the Commonwealth's Attorney and the victim witness advocates that work with them. Many of them are very caring and sensitive people and are also great at their jobs. You may want to consider finding a kind attorney to help you, and some may help for little or no charge. Your sister, you and your family may want to consider counseling. Much of the help out there is free. Don't give up. Good luck.
Re: Robbed and Raped at Work
Your sister should make inquiry as to whether she might be eligible for compensation from the Commonwealth's Victims of Crime Compensation Fund which I believe is administered by a state agency in Richmond.
