Re: sentenceing
SIS(Suspended Imposition of Sentence)is the Commonwealth's version of what some other jurisdictions refer to as Probation Before Judgment(PBJ)---available usually only to first time misdemeanor offenders. They enter a plea of guilty before the court but sentencing is deferred and they're placed on probation for 12 months with conditions. If they complete the conditions of probation successfully,
their criminal case is then closed by the court with no sentence ever being imposed and, consequently, there is no
record of a conviction.
The defendant who receives this disposition may truthfully swear that he or she has no record of conviction for that particular offense.
