Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

sheriffs ethics

A member of my famaily is being accused of embezzelment from a privious employer who is in serious finacial stress and we believe are using her as a scapegoat which we are sure will come out in trial However this is a very samll town and i am getting customers in my store that are telling me the sheriff is telling people that my sister is in jail(which she is not)that the amount she is accused of tkaing is thousands more then was on the warrant and making verious other negative statements. She owned a video store and eveything in it was seized she has not recieved a inventory of the items the drank her sodas and ate her candy bars left the store unsecured.My sister has not gone to trial yet the sherriffs lies are afecting my convience store isnt this wrong is there any recourse for me? Plus the owners of this bussines my sister worked for was a major contributor to this sherrifs election campaign and the commonwealthes attorney

Your only feasible approach is to politely correct each and every mistaken assertion regarding your sister's unfortunate situation

and allow the matter to work its way through the courts during, which, hopefully, the truth will incrementally emerge. (And, I would resist any urge you might have to take on the Sheriff's Department.)
