Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

My son was charged with possession of msrijuana in VA. He was in a car and there was pot in the car and there was paraphenalia in another kods bag. The car wasn't his, the bag wasn't his and he had nothing on hs person. How could they have cited him and what courde of action should he take? He's never been.charged before.

The course of action that should be taken should be (in my opinion) to retain the services of an experienced criminal defense counsel to represent your son who practices criminal defense law in the same court in which your son has been charged and where he must answer for such charge(s).
