Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia
Speedy trial
My son was arrested on July 2, 07 and charged with arsons. His arraigment is Jan 23, 08; He is being held without bail. Is there any way to get him released on bail, is this a speedy trial? This is his first offense, he is being held in max security without bail. He is 23 years old. This is his first offense. He has never been charged with drugs or alchole; but the commonwealth attorney used this as an excuse for the judge to deny him bail.

Re: Speedy trial
This is a matter which his (hopefully)very competent criminal defense counsel should now be diligently working on, among others.
