Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia
I stole $2000 in gift cards from my employer. I spoke to my manager, my supervisor and the lost prevention guy. It was kind of intimidating. I filled out a statement and a form saying they will recoup losses. I was fine with that because I felt bad, really bad. I wasn't arrested after they called the cops and gave them the papers I signed and the video of me doing what I did. I'm confused as to what happens now. Does it go just civil, criminal or both? Is there any chance of it just being handled civilly and what are the possible consequences ? I was in trouble before 6 years ago for Forgery in a different state. I live in Virginia.

What happens now will likely depend upon the policies regarding this
situation which are followed by the local Commonwealth's Attorney as well
as the particular store involved.
